Government has committed Shs2.5 billion towards the construction of a modern facility at Busaana Secondary School in Kayunga District, in a move aimed at improving education standards and expanding learning infrastructure.
The project follows lobbying efforts by Amos Lugoloobi, the Ntenjeru North Member of Parliament, who has been advocating for increased government investment in education facilities across the constituency.
During a district monitoring exercise led by Kayunga District authorities, Busaana Secondary School Headteacher Vincent Okwenje said the school’s growing enrolment of more than 1,500 students has placed significant pressure on the available infrastructure.
He explained that students and teachers have been operating in ageing buildings, while the administration has struggled with limited office space, including an inadequate headteacher’s office.
“Our student population has grown to 1,500, yet the available structures are old and insufficient. This new building will greatly improve administration and provide better learning facilities for both students and teachers,” Okwenje said.
He thanked the Government and MP Amos Lugoloobi for supporting the project, saying the new facility will significantly improve education standards in the area.
According to Joel Okwii, a site engineer with OPETECH (U) Ltd, the project involves the construction of a multi-purpose storeyed building that will house an administration block, staff room, library and computer laboratory.
Okwii said the project will be implemented in phases because of the scale of the structure. The first phase, which involves construction of the ground floor, will cost Shs574 million and is expected to be completed within six months.
“After the first phase, we will proceed with the second phase, which will involve construction of the first floor. We expect to complete the first phase and hand over the facility by August 3,” Okwii explained.
Kayunga District Chief Administrative Officer Edith Mutabazi, who led the district monitoring team, said the local government is committed to supervising all government-funded projects to ensure transparency, quality workmanship and value for money.
She noted that routine monitoring helps authorities identify implementation challenges early and ensures contractors adhere to agreed standards and timelines.
“Our responsibility is to oversee all government programmes and ensure public resources are properly utilised. We are committed to transparency, accountability and delivering quality services to our people,” Mutabazi said.
District officials said the new facility is expected to reduce congestion, improve school administration and provide modern learning resources, including a library and computer laboratory.
The project comes as the Government continues investing in education infrastructure aimed at improving learning conditions and enhancing education outcomes in Kayunga District.
